Conversion Steps

 

  1. Determine the two units in the problem
  2. Determine conversion factors
  3. Decide which conversion factor gives you the correct unit for the answer
  4. Write down the number from the problem, and multiply by the conversion factor

Convert 995 mm to meters.

  • Determine the two units in the problem

mm à meters

  • Determine conversion factors

mm means milli- (10-3). This means 1mm = 10-3 m

 and

  • Decide which conversion factor gives you the correct unit for the answer

Since we want meters, we want the "m" on the numerator (top of fraction)

  • Write down the number from the problem, and multiply by the conversion factor
