Computers & Study Spaces


Library public computers at Ashtonbee and The Centre

The library at Ashtonbee has computers available for general use.

You do not need to sign on to these computers.

You can access the Internet, the library catalogue and research databases on these computers. Programs such as word processing are not available on these computers.


Library computer labs at Progress, The Centre and the HP Science and Technology Centre

Computer labs are located inside these libraries.

These are regular college computer labs. Sign on to these computers using your college username and password. You have access to the same programs that are available in all college labs.

If you need assistance in these labs, contact the IT Help Desk at 416-289-5280, or helpdesk@centennialcollege.ca. There is a phone in the Progress and HP Science and Technology Centre labs with a direct line to the IT Help Desk.   At the Centre, library staff can help you contact the IT Help Desk.

Sometimes librarians use these labs for library classes. The labs are closed for general use and a sign is posted on the lab door when the librarian is conducting a class.


Using a laptop computer

You can use your own laptop computer in the library. The libraries are equipped with study carrels where you can plug in your laptop computer.  Each campus library also has wireless access.

You can also borrow a laptop computer from your campus library for use on campus.


Printing in the library

Printing from the library public computers at Ashtonbee: 

Purchase a plastic print card from the college bookstore to print from these computers.

You can also use this plastic print card in the library photocopiers. When you have used all of the copies on this card, you can add money to it at the library photocopiers.

Printing from the library computer lab computers at Progress, The Centre and the HP Science and Technology Centre:

Printing from these computers is the same as in other college computer labs.

You must have money on your college computer printing account to print. If you need to add money to your college print account, purchase a paper print card at the college bookstore. Directions for adding the money from the paper card to your college print account are on the back of the card. You can also add money to your college print account online at myCentennial with your credit card.

If you need assistance with the computer lab printers or if the printers are out of paper, call the IT Help Desk using the telephone in the computer lab.


Photocopiers

Each campus library has at least one black and white photocopier for students to use. The library photocopy machines do not make double-sided or colour copies.

Copies are 10 cents per page. You can use coins or photocopy cards in the photocopiers at Progress, the HP Science and Technology Centre, and Ashtonbee campuses.  You can purchase photocopy cards at the book stores.  Only coins (no photocopy cards) may be used at The Centre.

There are restrictions on the amount of material you can legally photocopy from a book, magazine, newspaper or journal. Read more about copyright information to find out what you are allowed to photocopy legally.

Each library also has a black and white overhead transparency photocopier. Overhead transparencies are 40 cents each which includes the plastic transparency sheet.  Ask the library staff for details.
