Pi Day

Pi Day

March 14 is internationally recognized as Pi Day but did you know that it was also Einstein’s birthday? To celebrate this day, please come to any of our Math Drop-in Centres between 12 and 2:30 PM for a free piece of pie*, a chance to win prizes and an opportunity to share your thoughts!

The symbol for π is the Greek letter p, for the perimeter. Pi (π) is used in mathematics to represent the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter. Pi is an irrational number and is approximately equal to 3.141592653... The date March 14 (3/14) represents the first 3 digits of this interesting number. Up to now, over 22 trillion digits of Pi have been calculated on a computer!

So, come and join us at the Math Drop-in Centres to have some fun with Pi.

Learn more about Pi from these videos, π Tape and The infinite life of pi.
