Course Reserves

What are course reserves?

  • They are supplementary or required readings or textbooks that have been placed on short-term loan on the Reserves shelves (behind the Help Desks) in the Libraries.
Faculty Reserve Form - please complete and bring to the library with reserve material

Where do I get them?

How do I check to see if my instructor has placed readings for me on Reserve?

  • Go to the library catalogue and click Reserve Desk. You can browse by:
  • Instructor (last name - e.g. Smith)
  • Course number (e.g. GNED 500)
  • Course name (e.g. Business Fundamentals)

How long can I have Reserve items?

  • Loan periods vary: overnight, 3-day, 2-hour in library use, etc.

Will my textbook be on Reserve?

  • Sometimes instructors will put textbooks on Reserve. Check with your instructor, or look up your course in the Reserve Desk catalogue.
  • As a rule, students are expected to buy textbooks assigned in class, and the library provides supplementary resources to support college programs. The library budget is not sufficient to purchase course textbooks.
  • Textbooks are sometimes accepted as donations and added to the circulating library collection, so you should also check the library catalogue to see if someone has donated the textbook you need. The textbooks we do have are often in high demand, so you may have to wait several weeks for a copy to become available.
