Protect your Copyright

You may be concerned about your students sharing your course materials on websites such as Course Hero and One Class.

These sites have take-down procedures, but a copyright infringement notice must be submitted by instructors whose courses are affected. The College or Library cannot do it for you.

It is important to note that it is legal for students to upload their own notes, as they own the copyright to them. However, it is not legal for students to share material such as readings, course slides or exams.

Copyright infringement may be found on sites such as Craigslist and Kijiji where recourse is not as clean-cut. Beyond contacting the poster to tell him or her to cease the infringing activity, there is limited action that may be taken. The same applies to social media.
